8.10 miles Airline Trail |
See mile 7.8 for directions to the Appalchia Parking lot and a description of the Airline Trail as far as the Airline Cutoff. --- Past the junction with the Airline Cutoff, the Airline Trail continues to climb 350 feet in 0.2 miles to reach the Gulfside Trail (AT). Northbound is left, southbound is right. The Airline continues straight ahead another 0.6 miles and 750 feet of elevation gain to the summit of Mt. Adams. 2/28/21 --- David Cullen --- |

8.70 miles Thunderstorm Junction |
Several trails intersect the AT, here called the Gulfside Trail, at this junction. I will only describe access via Lowes Path. The trail head is on the south side of US 2 100 yards west of Lowes store. Cars may be parked at the store for a small fee. --- Lowes Path climbs 4150 feet in 4.4 miles to meet the AT in the saddle between Mt. Adams and Mt. Sam Adams. Southbound is to the right, northbound is to the left. From the junction Lowes Path continues another 0.3 miles, climbing 300 feet over rocks to the summit of Mt. Adams. 2/28/21 --- David Cullen --- |

10.00 miles Edmands Col |
See Mile 4.1 for directions to the south junction of the Madison Gulf and Great Gulf Trails. This point may be accessed either from the Great Gulf Parking Area or from Pinkham Notch. --- I have never taken this trail. Information from the AMC White Mountain Guide, Follow the Great Gulf and then Six Husbands Trail. At 1.7 miles from the junction of the Great Gulf and Six Husbands Trail, the Edmans Col Cutoff goes right. Footing on this trail is reportedly very rough and rocky. It descends about 100 feet in 0.5 miles to Edmans Col. 3/7/21 --- David Cullen --- |

10.20 miles Mt. Jefferson Loop (North End) |
See Mile 10.4 for information about parking at the Caps Ridge Trailhead. I have not been to this trailhead since the parking permit system was established, but since it is on National Forest land, I suspect a White Mountain National Forest parking permit (or equivalent) is required. --- This is a slightly different route than described for mile 10.4. Take the Caps Ridge Trail to the junction with the Mt. Jefferson Loop, and go left (north). The AT is 0.3 miles further (350 foot descent). The junction is shortly before the northbound AT steeply descends to Edmands Col3/7/21 --- David Cullen --- |

10.40 miles Junction Gulfside/ 6 Husbands Trails |
See Mile 4.1 for directions to the south junction of the Madison Gulf and Great Gulf Trails. This point may be accessed either from the Great Gulf Parking Area or from Pinkham Notch. --- I have never taken this trail. Information from the AMC White Mountain Guide, 27th ed. At the Mile 4.1 intersection, go west on the Great Gulf Trail. After 1.7 miles and 800 feet of elevation gain, go right on the Six Husbands Trail. This trail described in the White Mountain Guide as steep and very rough but wild and beautiful. climbs 2250 feet in 2.0 miles to meet the Gulfside Trail (AT) on the east side of Mt. Jefferson. Southbound is left, northbound is right. The Sphinx Trail continues to climb to near the summit of Mt. Jefferson. 3/7/21 --- David Cullen --- |

10.40 miles Junction Gulfside/ 6 Husbands Trails |
The Six Husbands Trail also provides access to the AT as part of a route from the West Side, albeit one which goes very near the summit of Mt. Jefferson. Most of this route involves the Caps Ridge Trail. The trail head is on Mt. Jefferson Road. From the intersection of the Cog Railway Base Road and US 302 in Fabyan (see mile 16.8) follow the former about 4.5 miles to an intersection. At this intersection the Mt. Clinton Road goes south, the Jefferson Notch Road goes north. Follow the latter road, which is a good gravel road, 3.4 miles to the high point. The parking area is on the right (east) side of the road. At 3000 feet, this is the highest trail head on a public through road in the White Mountains. --- The Caps Ridge Trail climbs 2000 feet in 2.1 miles to the Cornice Trail then climbs another 700 feet in 0.4 miles, passing very near the summit of Mt. Jefferson and then reaching the Mt. Jefferson Loop Trail. Go left (north) on this 0.1 miles, then go right (east) on the 6 Husbands Trail descending about 300 feet to meet the Gulfside (AT). Southbound is right, northbound is left. Note: The Jefferson Notch Parking area is shown on the satellite view of the attached map. I suspect a WMNF parking permit or equivalent is required. 3/7/21 --- David Cullen --- http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Jefferson%20Notch%2C%20New%20H… --- |

10.80 miles Mt. Jefferson Loop (South End) |
See Mile 10.4 for directions to the Caps Ridge Trail parking area. White Mountain National Forest parking permit (or equivalent) probably required. --- This is a slightly different route than described for mile 10.4. Take the Caps Ridge Trail to the junction with the Mt. Jefferson Loop, and go right (south). The AT is 0.4 miles further (600 foot descent). The junction is on the relatively flat area at the base of Mt. Jefferson known as Monticello Lawn.3/7/21 --- David Cullen --- |

10.90 miles Cornice Trail |
See Mile 10.4 for directions to the Caps Ridge Trail parking area. White Mountain National Forest paarking permit ( or equivalent) probably required. --- This provides an alternative access via the Caps Ridge Trail that does not involve summiting Mt. Jefferson. Follow the Caps Ridge Trail 2.1 miles to the junction with the Cornice Trail (2000 feet elevation gain). Go right on the Cornice Trail, climbing another 300 feet in 0.5 miles to meet the Gulfside Trail (AT) on Monticello Lawn. 3/7/21 --- David Cullen --- |

Jefferson and Mt. Clay. Southbound is left, northbound is right. 3/7/21 --- David Cullen --- |
