0.00 miles Millbrook-Blairstown Road (Parking Lot) |
Start from the intersection of NJ 94 and County Route 602 in Blairstown. This intersection is about a half mile southwest of the intersection of NJ 94 and County Rte. 521. I think there is a road sign for Route 602 at the intersection. The route initially follows Main Street then bears left. Follow Route 602 northwest 6.2 miles from Blairstown to the trail crossing. It is another 1.1 miles to Millbrook Village. There is a small parking lot where the northbound trail re-enters the woods. This is on the right side of the road (coming from Blairstown). This is actually in Section 5 (See NJ Sec. 5, Mile 14.5). Some people have warned against parking here overnight. GPS: 41.059434, -74.963640 - There are 3 parking areas for this milemarker. This is the most northern one. --- The northbound AT (to Section 5) initially follows a gated road from the parking area. The official northern end of Section 6 can be reached by going left on Route 602 (AKA Millbrook-Blairstown Road) for about 0.1 miles to the point where the trail goes right onto a wood road. There may be parking for 1-2 cars here. Lot can be muddy and rocky. I would back into spot to make exit easier. Have seen some curious parking decisions here in the past.1/21/21 (revalidated April 2023) --- Dave Cullen --- |

0.00 miles Millbrook-Blairstown Road (Parking Lot) |
Here is a route from the north (I-84). There are other possibilities, but I know this one works. Take Exit 46 off I-84 in Pennsylvania and go south on US 6 for about 2.5 miles to the center of Milford. At the intersection with US 209 continue straight ahead (south) on US 209. In 8 miles in the 'town' of Dingmans Falls, go left on Dingmans Turnpike and cross the bridge (toll) into New Jersey. In about a quarter mile past the bridge, go sharp right onto Old Mine Road which becomes Walpack Road . In 2 miles go right staying on Walpack Road, now County Route 615.In approximately ten miles turn left at Old Mine Road and go 2.2 miles to Millbrook Village. There turn left on County Road 602 and go 1.5 miles to the trail crossing. Via this route the parking lot will be on the leftt. GPS: 41.058050 -74.964315 --- This is the third parking area for this mile marker. There are quite a few pullovers in this immediate area. Some are both ways past the trail. Southbound leads to Rattlesnake Fire Tower past the gate. Northbound leads past a beaver pond and then back on ridge to Blue Mountain/Crater Lake area. 1/21/21 (revalidated April 2023) --- Dave Cullen --- |

0.10 miles Millbrook-Blairstown Road (Fire Road Jct.) |
See Mile 0.0 above --- The map attached here shows where the southbound trail leaves Millbrook-Blairstown Road and follows a fire road into the woods to Section 6. This is the official southern end of Section 5 and northern end of Section 6. Rotate the street view on the map to the west to see the southbound trail and possible parking. Rotate to the north to see the northbound route to Section 5 which follows the road 0.1 miles to the parking lot on the right. There are simple pulloffs for 1-2 cars in both directions on Millbrook Road that would require a short walk. Also, there are larger areas in both directions that would require some road walking. 0.40 miles Rattlesnake Swamp Trail |
See directions to parking at the Mohican Outdoor Center (Mile 2.0). --- Walk up the road another quarter mile to a large open area. (See satellite view). There will be a sign for the Rattlesnake Swamp Trail. This is near what is now called Trails End Lodge. Go right. A junction is reached a short distance after re-entering the woods. The orange-blazed Rattlesnake Swamp Trail is to the left while what is now apparently called the Rattlesnake Swamp Connector Trail (also orange-blazed) goes right.Go left at the intersection. The trail goes north over mostly flat and sometimes muddy terrain. You may want to check trail conditions with the MOC staff. It ends at a fire road in 1.8 miles. Turn left and follow the fire road 0.1 miles to meet the AT. The marker on the attached map shows this intersection. GPS at this junction with the AT: 41.055, -74.9629 (See Mile 2.0 for a map centered on the parking at MOC. ). The northbound AT goes left along the fire road and reaches Millbrook-Blairstown Road in 0,4 miles. The southbound trail goes right as a footpath and starts the climb to the ridge. Note: Since this point is more accessible from a road via the AT, this particular route is really more of an alternate than an access. A combination of the AT and this trail make for some great loop hikes.11/29/20 --- David Cullen --- |

2.00 miles Rattlesnake Swamp Connector Trail |
Follow directions to the trail crossing of Camp Road (Mile 3.4). Continue another quarter mile into the Mohican Outdoor Center. There is the large Black Oak parking lot to the left where the road is barred to further vehicular traffic. This is about 500 feet past the Visitor Center/office. Parking is free. All a person has to do is fill out brief paperwork in the office. The markers on the attached map indicate the parking area. GPS of parking area: N41.0356 W75.0000 --- Walk up the road another quarter mile to a large open area (See satellite view). There will be a sign for the Rattlesnake Swamp Trail. This is near what is now called Trails End Lodge. New puncheons have recently been installed. Go right. A junction is reached a short distance after re-entering the woods. The orange-blazed Rattlesnake Swamp Trail is to the left while what is now apparently called the Rattlesnake Swamp Connector Trail (also orange-blazed) goes right. Go right here. The trail climbs 320 feet in 0.4 miles to meet the AT on the ridge crest at coordinates 41.0395 -74.9851. The southbound AT goes right, the northbound goes left. 03/14/10 Updated 07/03/18 and 1/4/20 --- David Cullen --- |

3.40 miles Camp Mohican Road (AT crossing) |
Following instructions are from intersection of NJ 94 and Mohican Road, 1.1 miles south of Blairstown. See http://www.mohicanoutdoorcenter.com for directions to this point from I-80 and points in the Northeast. From the above intersection follow Mohican Road west 3 1/2 miles to Gaisler Road. Mohican Road is a winding road with several forks. Always bear right at the Y intersections. Go left on Gaisler Road for 1/2 mile then turn right on Camp Mohican Road. (The Mohican Outdoor Center instructions call this Camp Road.) It becomes a gravel road. In about 0.8 miles the AT crossing is reached. There are parking pull-offs just beyond the crossing and a small lot a little further up the road. GPS of this small lot: N41.03322 W75.0040. More parking is available at the Appalachian Mountain Club's Mohican Outdoor Center which is another 1/4 mile further (See Mile 2.0). Any parking safety contributions at this mile marker should refer to parking near the trail crossing .GPS at trail crossing N41.03216, -75.0051. The marker on this map indicates the crossing. --- The northbound trail goes north from the crossing heading towards Catfish Fire Tower and eventually Millbrook-Blairstown Road. The southbound trail immediately crosses Yards Creek, passes the upper terminus of the Coppermines Trail, and starts to ascend. It eventually reaches Sunfish Pond and then Delaware Water Gap. The trail south is very rocky especially along Sunfish Pond. There are some great views. (revalidated in April 2024 by DA) --- David Cullen --- |

If coming from the south (I-80), see directions to the Beulahland Trail (Mile 10.7). Continue another 6.3 miles north on Old Mine Road. to a large parking area on the left. There is also a marked pedestrian crosswalk here. The marker on the attached map indicate this location. Rotate the street view to the north and west to see the parking and south to see the beginning of the trail. If coming from the north, follow directions from either Blairstown, NJ or Milford, PA given at Mile 0.0 as far as Millbrook Village. There go southwest on Old Mine Road (County Road 606) towards Delaware Water Gap. The trailhead is on the left in 4.3 miles. The parking area is on the right. GPS: N41.0378708 W75.0273264 --- The red-blazed Coppermines Trail climbs about 800 feet in 2.0 miles to meet the AT at Yards Creek just south of Camp Road. The northbound AT goes left and crosses Camp Mohican Road in a few feet. The southbound trail goes right. Given the proximity of this point to a road, the usefulness of this trail as an access to the AT is limited unless one wants to start on Old Mine Road. A nice loop can be made using the Coppermines Trail, the AT and the Kaiser Road Trail. There are two blue-blazed connectors between the Kaiser Road Trail and the Coppermines Trail. The second of these is the more useful, allowing allows access from the Kaiser Road parking area to the AT at Mile 5.3 Follow the Coppermines Trail about three-quarters of a mile to the second connector, go right on that for a quarter miles, then go left on the blue/white-blazed Kaiser Road Trail for 0.9 miles to the intersection with the AT.
